Will USA and the Nato end up the like former USSR in Afghanistan?

The location is not good in Afghanistan as per the reports. President Karzai's Government has not much control over the country apart from Kabul. UK and US are sending more troops whereas they are pulling out troops from Iraq. How sustained will they fight to bring stability in afghanistan where they still don't know who the enemy is. Daytime farmers, traders, villagers etc but at night most of them are equip to kill the troops? Even the kids could be suicide bombers. Whats the end and the solution to the peace?
No, I don't reckon so. We have a reason to fight, and the USSR didn't. And we aren't fighting against all of the Afghan people, just the Taliban. Also, the Taliban doesn't have the tolerate of a superpower, and I suspect we won't respect Pakistan as a safe harbor for very much longer. If we remember hearts and minds, I reckon we'll be OK.

Back then the mujahadeen were made out in many Western news sources to be noble "Davids" fighting the Soviet "Goliath".
Now the sons of those tribesmen, fighting another occupying efficacy are painted as terrorists, yet I don't know if any Afghanis were involved the attacks of September 11.
Is this a case of selective bias by these same gossip sources?

Bob- how many Afghanis hijacked aircraft that day? Weren't they almost exclusively Saudi citizens?
Militarily speaking they are square with. Both share the same goal. Establish and surrport and indegineous goverment with similar political beliefs, and to curb Islamic extermism.
Comparing the two trespass by using press and media reports from western nations during the 1980s is faulty. When looking at those reports you must take into solicitude the relationship between the west and the USSR. That was during the Cold War when most western nations view the USSR as a very real and very dangerous threat and the opposition. Any news and media reports would naturally be slanted to show them in an evil light. It is doubtful that the media reports would have had the same demonization had any other coutry (except maybe China) invaded.
Bob, the Russian inroad could be considered provoked. Despite claims of nation building, or the establishment of buffer zones, the true goal catalyst for the invasion was initiated by Afghanis. A group of Afghni militants stormed a Russian school campus and beheaded the teachers and their families. The mind for this attack was the fact that the Russian instructors were promoting literacy among Afghani women.
