Ukrainian...?
I am Ukrainian, I'm flowing in the language, and have my ukrainian 10,20,30 for high school. I was wondering, from what non-speakers know, would you consider it a difficult language to learn? Does it seem unsympathetic? I've always been curious to hear the point of view from someone who hasn't grown up with the language.
Yes, Ukrainian is rather despotic to learn, due to its declensions, conjugations and tough sounds hard to pronounce for an English speakers. Compared to other languages, it is about as cruel as Russian (actually a bit easier, since the words are pronounces the same way as they are read, unlike in Russian), a little harder than most Western European languages, including English, but easier than Chinese, Hungarian and Finnish.
The quiddity of literary, or standard, Ukrainian (based on the most widely spoken Middle-Dnieper dialect), as well as wide choice of Ukrainian handbills, including rich poetic heritage, makes learning easier and more interesting.
