How do I travel to Moscow, Russia on a tight budget in the autumn?

I shortage to visit a close friend in Moscow, Russia in October or November, but am on a very tight budget. Can anyone recommend cheap hotels/dismiss houses/bed and breakfasts/or hostels if need be? Also I have not found the information about train and bus travel to Moscow, can anyone help?

If your friend speaks Russian, ask him to book a hotel for you - there are quite a few to some degree cheap hotels and apartments/rooms for rent intended for local people (most of Internet website are more overpriced). But we're still talking about $ 50 a day - Moscow is expensive.
