There were several reasons for the Allied Intervention: to solid the Czech Legion - a pro-Allied army of captured Czechs who wanted to fight the Austro-Hungarian Empire; to firm the ports and ensure the White (anti-Bolshevik armies) got supplies of arms and ammunition; and to try to re-open the Eastern Front against the Essential Powers; and to support the newly independent (or to bolster independence claims) of Finland and the Baltic Republics - there is a medallion commemorating the British Sailors who helped Estonia become independent near one of the city gates in Tallinn.
