Comrade Buddha: Is Buddhism a Communist Religion?

An inviting observation I have noted over the last few weeks is this notion that Buddhism is somehow inherently a Marxist/Communist political religion; or at most outstanding one that is at great risk to Communist subversion. This fallacy has been bounced around a lot, mostly by Protestant Westerners, but also surprisingly by some Buddhists as well. The stance is based on their observation that the remaining communist countries around the world are primarily Buddhist, therefore are fundamentally pro Communist. It is such a insufficient argument, so I won't spend much time on it, however lets take a look at some of the basic relative facts.

The abolition of creed as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a environment which needs illusions."
Buddhism has been no less a victim of the nefarious dogma of Marxism/Leninism/Communism than any other religion. In to be sure, it is a tried and true test of the muster of a new Communist state to attempt to stamp out all religious or spiritual activities. Like in China with Buddhism and in Russia with Christianity and Islam, the Communists post-haste found that the will for religious or spiritual needs of the masses could not be destroyed. Most Communist countries choose a subtler path, where they infiltrated these rigorous establishments through subversion and clandestinely...
